Learn when and how to replace the filter and carbon brushes on your Metro Air Force dryer. Keep your pet grooming tool running at peak performance.
Quick answer
Replace your Metro Air Force dryer filter every 3-6 months and the carbon brushes when you notice reduced airflow or sparking. This guide covers both tasks with genuine replacement parts.
Why regular replacement matters
A clogged filter forces the motor to work harder, reducing drying power and potentially overheating the unit. Worn carbon brushes cause arcing and uneven motor rotation, which can damage the commutator over time. Replacing both on schedule keeps the dryer blowing strong and extends its service life.
How to replace the filter and carbon brushes
- Replace the filter: Unplug the dryer. Remove the filter cover on the back of the unit (usually a twist-off or clip-on cap). Pull out the old filter and insert the new genuine Metro filter, ensuring it seats flush. Reattach the cover. A dirty filter reduces airflow even if the motor sounds fine. Check it every month and replace at the first sign of visible dust buildup.
- Access the carbon brushes: Unplug the dryer. Remove the two long screws on the motor housing (typically near the handle). Gently pull the housing apart to expose the brush holders. Note the orientation of the old brushes before removing them. If the brushes are worn down to less than 1/4 inch (approx. 6 mm), they must be replaced immediately to avoid commutator damage.
- Install new carbon brushes: Slide each new brush into its holder so the carbon end contacts the commutator. The spring should press the brush firmly. Reassemble the housing and tighten the screws evenly. Plug in and test on low speed for 10 seconds before normal use. Run the dryer briefly without a filter after brush replacement to seat the brushes. Then reinstall the clean filter before grooming your pet.
