Tidy Cat vs Naturally Fresh: Odor Control Litter Showdown

Quick answer

For strong clumping and fragrance that masks tough odors, choose Tidy Cat Glade Tough Odor Solutions. For a natural, biodegradable pellet litter with multi-pet versatility, go with Naturally Fresh Pellet Formula.

Clumping vs Non-Clumping: What It Means for You

Tidy Cat is a clumping litter that forms tight, easy-to-scoop clumps, making daily cleaning fast and reducing the need for full box changes. Naturally Fresh is a non-clumping pellet litter that absorbs moisture into the pellets and requires you to remove solid waste and replace soiled pellets as needed.

If you prefer scooping once a day and keeping the box fresh between changes, clumping litter is more convenient. If you don't mind occasional full dumps and want a product that works for multiple small pets, the pellet formula may suit you better.

Odor Control: How They Tackle Smells

Tidy Cat uses TidyLock technology to neutralize ammonia, urine, and fecal odors, plus a Glade fresh fragrance that leaves a noticeable scent. Naturally Fresh claims up to 7 times more odor control than other non-clumping pellet litters, relying on the natural absorbency of walnut shells without added perfumes.

The trade-off is between a strong, perfumed odor defense and a natural, fragrance-free approach. If you are sensitive to scents or prefer an unscented box, Naturally Fresh is the better pick. If you want maximum odor masking, Tidy Cat delivers.

Material and Eco-Impact

Naturally Fresh is made from walnut shells grown in northern California. It is 100% biodegradable, compostable, and annually renewable. Tidy Cat is a clay-based clumping litter, which is not biodegradable and relies on strip mining for clay.

For environmentally conscious pet owners, Naturally Fresh is the clear winner. However, clay litters like Tidy Cat are widely available and familiar to most cat owners.

Trade-offs at a glance

• Clumping convenience: Tidy Cat forms tight clumps for easy scooping. Naturally Fresh is non-clumping and requires full pellet replacement when saturated.
• Odor control approach: Tidy Cat uses TidyLock technology plus Glade fragrance to mask odors. Naturally Fresh relies on natural walnut shell absorption with no added perfume.
• Multi-pet use: Naturally Fresh is labeled for cats, dogs, rabbits, gerbils, and ferrets. Tidy Cat is designed specifically for cats. If you have multiple small pets, Naturally Fresh is the more versatile choice.
• Eco-friendliness: Naturally Fresh is biodegradable and made from renewable walnut shells. Tidy Cat is clay-based and not biodegradable.
